Taking care of office plants not identified?
Help! A friend bought a plant in my office and I would like to keep it alive (which is nice!) But I have no idea what species it is or what kind of attention it requires. Can anyone help identify the plant from the following description, or at least give me some advice? She says she bought it in the dim light section at Home Depot. It is perhaps a foot tall and has broad leaves, bright green to mottled white along the middle. The label identifies only as a "right tropical", with instructions to "bright light. Keep the humidity." With How often should I water this thing? Everything I've read warns against excess water so now I'm undecided. In addition, potted in one of those plastic containers normal (about 6 "diameter) holes in the bottom, and some of the tips of roots that stick out are the holes. Does this mean that the recipient is too small? Must it be replanted?
Sounds like a Dieffenbachia varied. Here is a link with information. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Dieffenbachia http://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheets/HGIC1503.htm
